Member News | 2014 Queen's Honours List

Congratulations to Stewart Routledge, who recently received an Officer (AO) in the General Division of the Order of Australia in the recent Queen's Bithrday Honours List, for distinguished service to veterinary science, particularly the provision of technical assistance in developing countries, and to business through promoting Australian interests internationally.

Stewart and his wife Helen have primarliy lived in the GCC since 1982, with the last 11 years in the UAE and 16 years before that in Muscat, Oman, which took him to almost every village from Salalah to Musandam several times.
Stewart is a veterinarian working across the whole rural sector throughout the GCC region as well as the Central Asian Republics, Africa and Indian sub-continent, providing consulting, management in agriculture and livestock including related trading services, food security and investment in large scale agriculture production in Australia, through Stewart Routledge & Associates.

Stewart initiated and is Chairman of the non-profit organisation KYEEMA Foundation (www.kyeemafoundation.org) that provides services in developing countries in the livestock, human health and education sectors. In particular KYEEMA is recognised internationally for training governments in making the simple vaccine and training community groups in spreading Newcsastle Disease vaccination in many developing countries where the disease kills most of the poultry flock of very poor people each year, which is their main source of income.

This disease control is very important for female or child headed households, where parents have been lost from AIDS. The basis is a special ND vaccine developed at the University of Queensland that does not require strict refrigeration which allows vaccination in villages where there is no electricity.

He is a Director of UOW Enterprises of the University of Wollongong in Australia and a member of the UOWD Advisory Council in Dubai.

Congratulations!
